Vision Expo is a flagship event in the optical industry, where professionals from around the globe converge to explore the latest trends, innovations, and advancements in vision care brands. This year’s conference was particularly notable, with our director, Oliver Morgan, and Senior Client Consultant, Megan La Frenais, in attendance. Their experiences and insights from the event paint a vivid picture of an industry at the cusp of revolutionary change.

Revolutionising Eyewear with Technology
One of the standout themes of the expo was the integration of cutting-edge technology into everyday eyewear. The fusion of fashion and function was exemplified by Safilo. They collaborated with Amazon to incorporate Alexa into Carrera smart glasses. This innovative feature allows wearers not just to look stylish but to stay connected and command their digital lives seamlessly through voice commands.
Furthermore, Essilor Luxottica are working with Meta to integrate hearing aid capabilities into Ray-Ban glasses, powered by Meta’s advanced software. This initiative promises to transform eyewear from a tool for visual correction into a multifunctional device that enhances multiple aspects of the wearer’s sensory experiences.
The Advent of 3D-Printed and Screwless Glasses
The expo also showcased advancements in eyewear manufacturing and design. The trend towards 3D printing of glasses is gaining momentum, offering unprecedented customisation options and eco-friendly production methods. This technology not only enables the creation of personalised eyewear that fits perfectly but also reduces waste and environmental impact.
Additionally, companies like Silhouette are leading the charge in developing screwless glasses and companies such as Mykita and WestGroupe are developing glasses with flexible and spring hinges. These innovations promise to make eyewear more durable and user-friendly.
Celebrating Women’s Achievements in Vision Care
A highlight of their visit to New York was Megan and Oliver’s attendance at the Optical Women’s Association breakfast. This prestigious event recognised the contributions of four remarkable women in the optical industry. With over 400 attendees, including leaders from across the globe, the breakfast was a testament to the significant impact women have on shaping the future of vision care.

Vision Expo offered a glimpse into the future of eyewear, where technology and innovation converge to enhance our vision and overall quality of life. From smart glasses that keep us connected to developments that make eyewear more personalised and durable, the industry is on an exciting trajectory. Moreover, the recognition of women’s contributions underscores the diverse talent driving this evolution forward. The future of vision care is bright, and we are at the forefront of this transformative journey.
