In recent years, society has witnessed a significant transformation in attitudes toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) community. As businesses and the general wider society recognise the importance of inclusivity, acceptance, and equal rights, it becomes imperative to also focus on the experiences, struggles, and victories of the LGBT community.
At Morgan Latif, we have a strong focus on the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and making sure our LGBT staff feel supported at work. One of our employees represents our LGBT focus as our ‘D&I’ champion. This blog will explore the different stereotypes that we must break to support the future LGBT community and how we support our LGBT staff at Morgan Latif.
Historically, the LGBT community has faced significant obstacles, ranging from discrimination to social stigma and violence. However, progress has been made in recent years. Many countries have enacted laws to protect the rights of LGBT individuals, such as marriage equality, anti-discrimination laws, and the right to adopt children. These victories reflect the growing recognition of LGBT rights.
It is an important duty for modern society to continue raising awareness and campaigning about LGBT issues and the discrimination we are still facing so that future generations feel comfortable and safe revealing their sexuality. We have made so much progress as a society with changing attitudes towards the LGBT community but there is much more to be done, for example at least 67 countries still have national laws criminalising same-sex relations between consenting adults.
At Morgan Latif, our workplace culture supports diversity and inclusivity and 0 tolerance against all forms of discrimination. We take pride in running various training sessions to educate our employees about supporting the LGBT community. By educating our employees we hope to dismantle ignorance and foster a supportive and understanding workplace.
Overall, I believe that each person’s unique journey contributes to the vibrant and inclusive society we aspire to create. By celebrating diversity, we enrich our communities and cultivate an environment of acceptance and understanding. This is the type of world and society that future generations deserve to be brought into.
