For the series 1 finale of the Coaching You Through Crisis Vodcast we welcome 2 very special guests. Our very own co-founder and director and Oliver Morgan and Jean Pierre de Villiers. Jean-Pierre was the first experience we had with a coach to optimise performance and Oliver covers the value he found from it and how it lead to the creation of the ML search offering. As a published author, speaker, and elite vegan athlete, JP as he is known, takes us through his own personal journey to become a high performance coach and more importantly his road to recovery from his own personal crisis having suffered a very serious accident whilst on a charity bike one year ago. His lessons on personal responsibility, developing a mindset and habits are lessons anyone can take when dealing with difficulties.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- You have to lead yourself before you lead others
- The pursuit to always improve every day at something, will eventually, bring desired results in your chosen field
- When you train you don’t do so for today you do so for the challenges of tomorrow and help you overcome unforeseen challenges
- You create your meaning, you create your reality
- Always hold yourself accountable for the problem you face, in doing so it gives you the freedom to action change
- Choose to be victorious not a victim
- You don’t win alone and you need to find the right people to surround yourself with it to harness their energy and their lessons to overcome. If you are doing it alone you are doing it wrong
- Always focus what is in your control. Too many people focus on what they can’t control: COVID, the Economy, Other people. You can influence other people but you can’t control them, therefore, you should focus on controlling our thoughts and actions to mirror the outcomes you want
- Invest in the right people and have the right people around you. Beliefs can sometimes stop you from seeing the truth. It’s important to question everything The conversations you have with others are more important than those you have with yourself
- Chose the most powerful meaning you can have
- Focus. Control the very first thought you have in the morning – what is today going to mean?
- Consistency is incredibly important, both personally and with leadership. People you lead need to have faith in your consistency
- Always have a role model that you aspire to be like. Someone that impresses you, inspires you and drives you to be your best.
- Keep putting yourself in environments of change and challenge our own thinking. In order to consistently improve think of yourself as an athlete. Put yourself in ‘training camps’ to consistently become the best version of yourself.
- Repetition. Have your “non-negotiables” in your life that you live by. What you do every day is determining what you are doing. Do the work and change your life day by day. Be aware of the work that needs to be done and hold yourself accountable
